Alcohol Outlet Privatization: The British Columbia Experiment
Principal Investigator: Andrew J. Treno, Ph.D.

This study takes advantage of data from an ongoing policy change currently taking place in British Columbia, Canada. Province controlled alcohol outlets are being turned over to private retailers. We will assess impacts of this change in the availability of alcohol on alcohol use and related problems across 89 regions over 6 years. The research examines the relationship between privatization and the number of alcohol sales outlets, beverage prices, alcohol sales, and alcohol related problems in different kinds of communities.
