The Center Grant

PRC is one of fifteen centers sponsored by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA), of the U.S. National Institutes of Health, and is the only one that specializes in prevention. It was first funded in 1983 and in the decades that have followed has sponsored a wide range of research in alcohol and prevention. In addition to the research components directly funded by the national center grant, the center grant also provides a broad base of staffing and expertise for obtaining other sources of funding for additional alcohol prevention studies. The center grant also supports infrastructure and basic prevention science, both of which are necessary to maintain the best research practices.
